DOTD (2004) Image Analysis

In this scene from DOTD(2004) is when Steve tries to escape from the bus, but in turn is actually bitten by zombie. He goes to attack Ana, but she shoots him in the head. This scene is destined to happen because earlier on in the film where the survivors are on the mall’s rooftop, Ana tells Steve that if he turns into ‘one of them’ that she will gladly shoot him in the head. Steve is the selfish character in this film, first he shuts the door (in a previous scene) so that the rest of the characters were locked out of the safety of the mall and then in this scene he was trying to escape with the keys to the boat and leaving the rest of the characters for all he knows, dead. Steve is destined to be turned into a zombie because of these elements. Due to dramatic irony it is obvious to the audience that Ana would be the one to shoot him in the head. Ana is the typical ‘final girl’ in this film, she shows that she is tough by firstly escaping from her zombie husband at the beginning of the film, and then here shooting Steven in the head to save herself again. And she also shows that she is clever, as she works out how the ‘virus’ is spread.
