This scene from DOTD(2004) is an example of collision cutting of a fast-paced montage of the characters running away from the zombies, to a suddenly quiet and calm scene now that they are in the elevator. They are briefly away from the danger of the zombies and all that can be heard is the elevator music. Adding to this is when they are all in the lift and CJ says ‘I like this song’ it is like he is not taking the whole situation very seriously, which is why everyone is looking at him with disbelieving expressions on their faces. The song playing in this scene is ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ which is contrapuntal to the scene. The film maker has used contrapuntal music here to make the audience feel uncomfortable. Straight after they leave the elevator the scene is back to being full and fast where they are trying to escape the mall, which is now full of the zombies. This scene creates excitement and tension for the audience as the fast paced movement followed with the fast paced parallel music keeps the audience excited for them to escape, but tension in that they hope everyone gets out alive.
