Genre: Horror/Gore
Your mark (after viewing): 7/10
What happened in the trailer?
We (the audience) see a girl tied up in a dark room, we then see her screaming and running. She looks grubby and hurt and we assume she is running away from something as she screams and turns around as she runs. The title appears on the screen but each letter appears singularly to spell out the film title, each time the letters appear on screen for shorter lengths of time. The girl is still running but we don’t know what/who she is running from, we then see her shooting a man but we don’t know who he is or why she has killed him.
What was the best aspect/more enjoyable moment in the film? Why? Can you recreate this in your own film? How?
Shows a lot of the gore well, her covered in blood, man getting shot which gives us an idea of the story. From the shackles and chains assume she is a prisoner of some kind, but without the narrative being ruined. The trailer is fairly fast paced and gets quicker as the trailer goes on, also the shot time of the letters gets shorter throughout the trailer and they appear a lot quicker to (these letters spell the title of the film ‘Martyrs’. This trailer is a classical way of doing a horror trailer which involves a lot of body horror; it shows torture, violence and scared girl and death etc. the shot gun blast really delivers the moments of body horror.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful, and would put off its target audience? How is it disappointing?
although the shot gun blast delivers to moments of body horror I thought that this was a bit random when it seemed the rest of the trailer was all about the same woman running away, although I think there was two women that looked very similar but you don’t know which one is which and it is very confusing. Also the letters get Fairley annoying although these do help to quicken the pace of the trailer.
What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it receive that mark?
the average score in the class was 7/10, it was decided that the pacing was good, but the plot needs to be thought about more carefully and made a bit clearer but it does grabs peoples attention.
