What happens in the trailer?
In the trailer we see a husband and wife talking about going away for the weekend, the next thing the audience know is that the husband has gone missing and his wife, obviously, is persistent in trying to find him. We then meet who I think is a doctor who gives her medication for panic attacks, what the audiences see's of them is the wife running like she is afraid of something and running back into the house and clutching her chest, she seems paranoid about a door that has been locked since her husband went missing and she also accuses the doctor of putting something in her medication.
Which positive, clever or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled well?
The use of slow motion at the beginning of the trailer and the twinkling happy music in the background which suddenly changes with a dramatic thud to a more eerie twinkling music as we find out that her husband has gone missing. This use of music here works very well in changing the mood of the trailer quickly and dramatically. Another good use of music is when she is running back into the house, and there is a very high pitched screeching music that gets louder and suddenly stops as she gets back into the house, this suggests that the house is safe for her or maybe that she can't leave as she seems to have these 'panic attacks' when she is outside of the house, and they are what are drawing her back into the house, but the music used demonstrates this very well.
The close-ups of her face, as she is looking around, looking worried work really well as the audience really feel her emotion from this shots and the audience in a way feels scared for her as they wish to find out what has actually happened to her husband and what is happening to her.
The use of slow eerie music and low key lighting as she walked towards the locked door works really well as it builds tension fro the audience, which is then greeted by a shot a little bit later on of a door opening and the woman's husband staring with a stern look on her face which makes the audience ask themselves if he is locked behind that door. I think that this trailer, although it is very scarce in the way of giving away any of the story line it makes the audience make up their own mind into what is actually happening in the story of the trailer which will intrigue the audience into watching the film to find out what actually happens.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful and would put off its audience? How is it disappointing?
I think that this trailer could have used some text to tell the story a little bit better, this would also create tension between the clips and I think intrigue the audience even more to watch the whole film.
