Genre: Gangster/Crime/Horror
Your mark (After viewing): 8/10
What happened in the trailer?
The trailer shows lots of drug abuse, violence and sex which successfully translates the genre of the film of gangs and violence, although the narrative is not quite clear. The trailer uses lots of quick montage and collision cutting of quiet, empty shots of just one person speaking (the audience will expect to be the main characters) to full, loud shots of violence etc. The trailer uses quote from magazines etc. to express how good the films are in order to persuade the audience to watch all of the films. This is a typical highlights trailer, which includes highlights from all three films which is fairy difficult to do.
Which positive, clever or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled well?
The use of quick montage, with loud, heavy beating music makes the trailer very exciting for the viewer. It uses good collision cutting with the text on screen, it goes from full screen to empty with the man speaking over the top, and a good font is used for this text. This trailer also uses quotes from magazines which sells that the films are good. This is an example of a classic highlights trailer, and picked out the most interesting parts of the films. The soundtrack syncs with the changes of the shots, this gives the trailer a classy feel. This trailer is very good at putting across the genre of the film by using lots of violence, drugs, rudeness and body horror.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful, and would put off its target audience? How is it disappointing?
This trailer uses great highlights but it is difficult to pick out characters and the narrative of the films, as it is so fast paced, the trailer could have maybe built speed instead of being fast and in your face from the beginning.
What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it receive that mark?
8/10. A good trailer, exciting but maybe a bit too fast and in your face.
